I've received countless messages, as I did during Trump's first term, about whether Trump can or will pardon himself. He won't need to if the Attorney General gives him a Get Out of Jail Free card
Barr has been front and center on 3 former presidents treasonous investigations: Irangate, Iran Contra, his fabricated redacted Mueller report including Trump’s multiple acts of treason! Barr should definitely spend time in an oubliette! Thanks Allison for all you do, you’re the best!!
Trump will want to cover all the bases on this one. Just so no one can get at him when he's not President. Even with all the help SCOTUS gave him, there were still a couple of paths to prosecution. Something Jack Smith showed when he amended his complaint to comply with SCOTUS criteria. He was still able to find charges to be brought. But now...
It looks like the two trials in New York will be the only times that Trump will find himself at the defense table and being held accountable for his actions.
Here is an interesting thought. We know that Comer, Bondi, and Patel will want to pursue Biden for the same old tired stuff about Hunter's business dealings. The thing is that the last "business dealing" Joe was purportedly involved with was mid 2019. (This from Comer's committee website, see Timeline) The Federal Statute of limitations for most things, including bribery, is 5 years. Oops, gone.
But think! They may argue that the statute of limitations is tolled for the time he was president. And if that gets to the Extremes, one of two things can happen.
a) The Extremes can say yes, it is tolled. That leaves Jack Smith's cases, dismissed without prejudice, ready to go in four years.
b) The Extremes can say no, not tolled. Thus the statute of limitations protects Biden and though it screws Smith's cases, trump may very well be the Late 47, or in a memory care home.
I'll be on the Hill in April. When I walk past the Supreme Court building, I'll be looking to see that the motto "Equal Justice Under Law" will have been erased from its current honored position above the west entrance to the Court. If it's still there, I'll be appalled, because it no longer belongs there.
Jack Smith is required to file a report when he asked for the case to be dismissed. The report exists but it is not released yet. If Merrick Garland waits long enough, it will never see the light of day.
Thanks for delivering this bitter bit of truth. Let us now focus on the long battles ahead.
Yep, the, “no man is above the law” lie is supported by men above the law.
So terribly depressing!

If he survives Trumps term, Jack Smith will ensure a prison term for Trump.
I want to believe this!
Me too! I also hope Joe Biden pardons Jack Smith preemptively.
Most definitely!

Ostensibly he’s been pardoned by the Supreme Court I guess. Calling them supreme is nauseating.
It’s all very sickening. The Judicial System failed us. We failed us. Sickening.
I think you meant the Barr memo said Trump did not conspire with Russia to rig the 2016 election.

All that said, I am still waiting for Merrick Garland to release Jack Smith's report.
I guess the "just us" department of no accountability for rich white male republicans is our new normal......
This saddens me.
Depressing that we've come to this.
No man is above the law…. except Trump. I suppose this will be codified during the next four years. 🙄
