Yes thank you for your clarity. But when you write “It’s time to take our power back. No one is going to do it for us.” what do you suggest. How many people I support with substack subscriptions and almost all say the same thing yet dont offer the next sentence: what do you intend that we should do?

Exactly this. Fight it in the courts? No, Trump admin is actively going after lawyers who prosecute him and their objectives when they break the law, and the most powerful law firms are bending the knee. We've seen how they delay and rig the game so we cannot use the courts any longer.

Call our reps? No, because they're not answering, dodging town halls, or refusing to do anything of substance.

Take to the streets to protest? No, because we do and it's not listened to, the fourth estate is failing or being pressured into silence, and the admin is chomping at the bit for the 20th to roll around when they can take their "recommendation" and invoke the insurrection act. Next week all bets could be off: dragnets scooping up our data for years means there's already a target list for them. Not enough stood up for the least powerful, so now they're coming for the ever shrinking group who were willing to stand up.

What is left? Terrifyingly, the rest of the world already knows, and I don't think they're coming to save the US.

Giving up is not a choice. My father fought the Nazi in France and Germany. He didn’t give up (although he saw his comrades die right next him). Martin Luther King and John Lewis didn’t give up the fight for equal rights. Doing what we can do, no matter how small, is the least we can do to pass along our Democracy to the next generation. Every action we take, no matter how small and seemingly inconsequential it might seem, makes a difference whether the MSM cares or not!

Truth! We need to plant the seeds of resistance. All of it matters, even if we don't know what will result. Our actions will bear fruit in ways we can't imagine.

My thoughts exactly. It's horrific to contemplate. South Korea's National Assembly at least had a majority that could put a stop to its president's abuse. Unless enough Republicans have a major change of perspective, that won't be the case for us. That's probably why the prospects of being voted out of office don't worry them.

I support multiple Substack authors who provide lots of ways to take action: Jessica Craven, Robert Hubbell, Rev. John Pavlovitz to name a few. Alternately, join a local Indivisible group and organize or attend rally’s and protests or sign up with Commit to Democracy to write postcards to voters. Every action we take causes a reaction and when combined, our actions are POWERFUL!

We can still make and display signs carrying messages, right? We need potent slogans and short but clear explanations. We need to make sure folks are aware of what’s going on and not ignoring reality. So, everyday or at least weekly protests in places everyone visits. We must become like Mormons or Jehovah’s Witnesses, carrying our pamphlets at all times and offering them relentlessly. We need to go to Trump country and spread the word. We must speak louder than Fox News. We have to plan and pace ourselves because Nov 2026, the first weigh station, is some 19 months away. We cannot rely on the party alone; this is our country and we must help wake enough people up to reality.

That is an impossible question to answer. I don’t know what opportunities you have to resist, but will encourage you to do anything you can.

We each have to think about the groups we can plug into, the people we can support or who support us, and do something.

Resistance isn’t always active, sometimes it may be dormant waiting for the right chance to spring up.

How we spring up may be different for each of us.

There’s a deepening sense of despair. I see that one of the only paths forward is through a grassroots movement that leaders like AOC, Bernie, and a few others in Congress are building. It’s going to be a long and difficult road, and I worry I may not make it through intact. I worry about the toll this will take on people of all ages—on the elderly, young children, students in college and how this not just affects the future of our climate and freedom, but encourages bullying and discrimination in schools and in the work force.

But this movement needs strong voices in the independent media, grounded in truth and knowledge—people like Allison. She’s not pretending this is easy. Without the independent media we go now where with the grassroots movement. with the current mainstream media, we are guaranteed to lose our battle to regain democracy.

The hard part is—I don’t know what my job is in this fight. That’s where I’m stuck right now. I feel paralyzed by everything happening. I’m scared. I’m scared of losing my job if I speak up or fight too loudly. There seems to be no limit to the extent they will go to break the constitution and harm people who disagree with them.

What I can do is share truth and information with others. AOC recently released a podcast that really speaks to this—how we can engage, even in small ways. Listening to smart, passionate leaders like her and other progressive members of Congress who can inform us on what is going on and what they are doing so that we can participate in a movement with information not rhetoric.

Dennis, thank you for re-sending the link. I read Aaron Flynn's letter, and was very impressed. I liked and restacked it, and I'll send it off as well - despite my reluctance and skepticism owing to the Court's clearly demonstrated venality, arrogance and treasonous inclinations (I refer of course to the clearly compromised majority). I doubt, of course, that they're likely to be moved, but Flynn's letter is so articulate and irrefutably reasonable that it deserves to be supported by as many people as possible.

It states in the Constitution that We the people can walk right into the White House and take back our government. Mussolini was dragged out and hung. Hitler killed himself because the revolt was coming to kill him. Joseph Stalin was rumored to have been poisoned which led to a stroke that ended his life.

This is the United States of fucking America. We are a democracy and we have rights that our forefathers put in place in case shit like this happens. Amendments added after WWII as safeguards.

The peaceful protests are not moving the needle with this regime. It's great seeing the numbers grow and people are finally waking up, but something needs to shake the MAGA foundation or we are all in danger of being disappeared. ALL. OF. US.

These protests need to be around everywhere he goes. White House, Bedminster, Mar-A-Lardo, fucking McDonald's, etc. We can't rely on our reps to save us. They are too busy saving their own asses by kissing Shitler's ass.

The majority of this SCOTUS are also religious fascists like this evil regime. Disgusting!!

The amount of deaths from miscarriages is enough, led alone everything else they're responsible for is despicable.

SCOTUS is accountable for the downfall of USA as much as the evil trump regime.

I hope I live to see them held accountable.

They're rotten to the core. Greedy, evil, money loving monsters. I wish them swift karma, for what they've done and continue to do.

This has been my response for a long time. The feds haven't been serving us since Citizens United and McConnell started stealing the SC seats. Allison is absolutely right - we should have seen this coming. But this latest assault and brazen talk about jailing US citizen is the final straw. IF we want a new formal government, I say go parliamentary style, and have some more direct say so these clowns can be voted out faster and we can have more coalitions that better align with our values and local needs. A two-party system only rewards the donor class.

Thank you, Allison. Constitutionally enabling the President and the Senate to decide who sits on the Courts (Federal and Supreme) has been a vast mistake because it has only enshrined partisanship and its attendant woes on the bench. That appointment should have been entrusted to an independent board or council of federal justices and Bar scholars, appointed by rules that board decides. We also should have separate bodies (not one) to rule on constitutional matters (as a constitutional court) and on judicial matters (as the highest appeals court), appointed by the same body or another, but the legislative and executive should have no say in it.

It wouldn’t be a “foreign affair” if they hadn’t been sent to another country which I wrongly thought was forbidden by the constitution. I guess they argue entirely based upon the deported not being citizens or immigrants but simply unwanted. I thought due process would protect those on our soil but the GOP’s president and congress have decided to continue paying Bukele for the prisoner’s care and well being while pretending it is a foreign affair. GEO must be fuming. Bukele may have reeled Garcia in for those he was originally running from? But this cruelty may isolate El salvadore internationally. Garcia was apparently well loved and productive and not criminal in any way in the US. Perhaps Garcia was caught by something like pallantir and they don’t want everyone to know just how truly good our surveillance has become or Musk got IRS (or?) data and found those paying in but no evidence of citizenship. Every angle makes me feel unclean as an American. Even scotus seems powerless and failed to complete their duty but managed to warn the lower court what the GOP was likely to say about the President’s power in foreign affairs. But they failed to admonish anyone for the GOP act that actually made it a foreign affair! Everyone is ineffective, except the original GOP perpetrators flying people around hiding them from everyone they need before spiriting them away to a location that was inaccurately shared with them or worse incompetently unknown!

This ignoring the scotus and lighthearted giggling at the outset of the oval office meeting while playing with the life of a father, brother, husband and son is disheartening. Deferring to Miller (also occurred on Hegseth’s call) is also alarming because he seems to think real people are just ants or hindrances to either his happiness or our budding greatness. Frustrating to watch.

Fully agree, thanks for summarizing the downward spiral SCOTUS has been on since its takeover by right-wing extremists/terrorists. The Abrego episode is just the last link in a pro-fascism chain the Court has been building over the years, but many commentators and all the press were -once again- fooled into believing SCOTUS was standing up for the Constitution when it was doing exactly the opposite. When Miller agrees with you is when you know you are totally, unethically, wrong.
