This letter provides enough evidence for a complaint to the bar of every jurisdiction in which Bove is a member. He needs to be disbarred.

He needs to be arrested, but that won’t happen.

Surely any agreement including a quid pro quo is prima facie evidence of a corrupt bargain?

Bove should be facing an investigation. Not that this Administration would actually take an interest in internal corruption.

Why won't Bove be arrested for quid pro quo? And disbarred? Since DOJ is now compromised, guessing it won't, but can't New York at least bring charges against Adams?

Expand full comment

Both should happen. New York could bring charges, but states don’t typically get to charge federal officials. We know the US DOJ won’t since he’s doing their bidding. Disbarment can happen anytime and all bars are state-level so the feds can’t interfere.

We are fortunate to have attorneys like this who stand up for the law in face of threats.

As a now-retired attorney, I admire her strength in the face of adversity.

Well every time a good professional person is forced to resign because they stand up to wrong doing, I think we need to feel outrage.

What is this lawyer now going to do? How do others end up? Paying bills doesn’t end. I feel moral outrage she was placed in this position to begin with and I share her convictions.

Expand full comment

Not only outrage, but real pride in that someone did the right thing and make sure people see what that looks like. What American justice and good governing is supposed to be, not the corrupt puppet show on display at the moment.

I think someone who clerked for a Supreme Court Justice and who has the qualifications to be head of SDNY will have no problem finding a job. Any number of white shoe firms would be willing to take her. And at a higher salary than DOJ pays.

We need to have the best & the brightest working for "We, the People" in the DOJ. It's all too obvious nowadays that we also need the most ethical. Unfortunately, we have many elected representatives who lack the moral fiber to do what they know is the right thing.

It’s always about money but when working for the government we also need principled people as leaders. And yes while no doubt she can and will get another job, again is this the way? Just force people to resign until you get the stooge who will stay and let wrong doing continue? I suppose with bullies and lawlessness this is the only way.

Danielle Sassoon and Liz Cheney are heroes for speaking truth to power and to their own party.

She's a hero, thanks for your write up, Emil should lose his license maybe, and Gov Hochul should remove Adams now.

Thank you, Alison, for highlighting and making available this letter. Sassoon’s letter not only speaks truth, but does so with a knowledgeable, responsible voice. YES! More people should have responded to illegality with the law. I hope with Sassoon breaking the ice, more people will. If Pam Bondi had done her job as required by law, the order would have been immediately returned to Bove. Fat chance.

Thank you for standing up for the rule of law Ms. Sassoon.

You may have lost a job, but you’ve etched yourself a pivotal spot on the right side of history.👏👏👏👏👏👏

Wow! Someone with integrity!

I appreciate what Sassoon did, and the courage it must have taken, but wish she'd refused to follow the corrupt instruction, and made them fire her. Why let them accept your resignation? Make them fire you and then sue them for improperly firing you for your refusal to join a corrupt illegal act.

Agreed. Rule #1 to avoid tyranny: DO NOT obey in advance (see Timothy Snyder)

Wow. That took guts! My heartfelt thanks to Ms Sasson.

All of America needs to see this letter and understand this is what we expect (and get) from most career prosecutors (and FBI agents, etc.). Too many people believe everyone is corrupt and nothing matters anymore.
