One of the first pardons should go to Dr. Anthony Fauci. Biden should insist that he receive it. The man is 83 years old, he spent 50 years in government service, he had to put up with Trump, and he has had to deal with the likes of fucking idiots like Marjorie Taylor Greene.

I believe Dr Fauci currently has protection from MAGA loonies. He’ll need a pardon and continued protection now that the criminals are running the asylum.

And Hillary Clinton. Trump has never gotten over Hillary and will fabricate something to Lock her up!

Sorry, but Biden stops at his son...too much a "traditionalist" to go the Full Monty.

I said what he should do, not what he will do. Biden has disappointed many times over the decades. Ask Anita Hill.

Yes, and I say anybody beyond Hunter is off the table..."blanket" or pre-indicted pardons are just not Joe...he even would have balked at a Nixon pardon per Gerald Ford. Nobody on tRump"# or Patel's "enemies list" will make the cut, bank it. Rather, the lifers with a death sentence over their heads get first priority.

Yes! Pardon away! No one should put any trust this new administration! They’ve already said what they will do! Biden should also pardon himself.

Don't think he can do that. But on January 18, say, he could resign and Harris would be president and SHE could pardon him.

I’ve been pleading for Biden to step down, with our first female president providing more ass kicking stress dolled out for the Trumps return to power. I heartily endorse this Susan!

Sooner!

if possible. But the 18th would suffice for this purpose.

He's got immunity, as good as trump does. But just in case, no harm in trying a pardon for himself - but it's not clear that's legit - I don't want trump to do it but he probably will regardless whether Biden does or not.

Expand full comment

Dubious that POTUS has the power to pardon himself, aside from the exception being a corrupt SCOTUS Debra. If Biden were to pardon Harris, then step down allowing Harris the opportunity to pardon him, everything should be copasetic!

Biden has same immunity as trump

Random wild hair thought. Could Biden pre-emptively pardon all the illegal immigrants? Basically, sweeping amnesty?

If he could, can you imagine the massive legal hurdles to Dictator Trump's plans for mass deportation?

That is problematic because SOME have actually committed crimes in the US--those already in jail that Border Czar wants to move from prison to prison camps. True, they are way fewer proportionately than crimes committed by citizens. But still, I'd like to know what they did to get in jail before saying "cool."

Another problem is that overstaying LEGAL entry isn't a crime, but a civil offense. A whole LOT of those in the undocumented population come under that heading. And I don't think even a president can pardon a civil offense, though the Constitution doesn't say "crimes" but "offenses against the United States." Biden COULD try to use that wording to pardon those folks FOR the "offense" of being in the US without papers, but that probably wouldn't stop them from being dragged into immigration court or give them things like work permits. I'd rather trump just round up the currently incarcerated or indicted, send them to the private prisons/camps, deport them (it still needs an immigration court order, which could take years) and then cry "mission accomplished" and leave those who are already living a productive life in their communities, even though without papers, alone.

Biden cannot do ANYTHING because he won’t. Why should he defend immigrants when he wouldn’t even defend Anita Hill?

Incidentally, the killer of united Health Care CEO caught at MCDonald’s. Another example of the deleterious effects of eating at McDonald’s. Maybe, just maybe, McDonald’s food responsible for the Trump brain rot.

Ronald Reagan gave amnesty to over 3 Million illegal immigrants in 1986. History should repeat itself.

Agreed. The Supreme Court have put this country into the Wild West. I don't revere the Supreme Court as I did growing up. @potus use your powers granted by the Supreme Court and don't look back. Preemptive pardons for anyone who is frightened of the Trump administration. Start with Fauci, Liz Cheney, and Adam Kinzinger.

The list would be long. Certainly anyone involved in any of the felon's impeachments or prosecutions, anyone in the Democratic leadership, pretty much anyone whoever crossed the fellon.

But it couldn't stop there. Congress (the part that still believes in the rule of law anyway) must work unceasingly to devise a law that would outlaw political prosecution, and that means a Constitutional amendment. That's the only thing a corrupt to the bone Supreme Court couldn't overturn. Sure, it couldn't happen under the new administration, and maybe not for years. But it needs to be ready (like Project 2025 was ready) when the moment comes when it could pass.

This unfortunate period in our history has at least exposed gaps and limitations in the Constitution that need to be filled or fixed. We can't ever assume good will or faithfulness to the spirit of the Constitution again. Those days are over. From now on, everything must be spelled out with no room for ambiguity.

You have verbalized EXACTLY what I have been thinking. Thank you, and I am in TOTAL AGREEMENT with your reasoning.

Well said. In the political climate we are in now, anyone that thinks they need a preemptive pardon and wants it should be considered.

It is a relief to see I agree with so many of you here, especially since MSM is once again playing both sides as equal. What I truly do not understand is how Democrats are on the Biden bashing wagon! They are horrified that Biden is considering pardons. 😱 OMG, What horrible thing will he do next to exercise his authority or protect our country? I guess they think siding with MAGA will protect them?

I’m pro-preemptive pardons too, if it will make it impossible for any future administration to lay criminal charges against any official who carried out their duties at any time before 1-29-2025.

If I’m ever going to give a damn again about the Democratic Party, they will not turn over the keys until Russian influence in the election fully investigated. During the time it takes we could get lucky and Trump dies of natural causes, maybe because of his obvious increasing dementia.

Expand full comment

Have you paid attention to how long it takes to complete a deep investigation? Basically you’re suggesting Joe should refuse to leave office until we get to the bottom of things in a year or two. Then we become what we stand against. Hard pass. I’ll stand with the Party of integrity even when it hurts.

But the we end up with JD Vance as president. As horrific as trump.

I thought I replied to this from my iPhone so forgive me if I wind up with two replies.

I suggested NOT HANDING OVER KEYS UNTIL INVESTIGATIONS COMPLETE. BY THEN, I SUSPECT Trump will be arrested for sedition and Vance was not elected as president. Also, because of Russian influence, the election is negated and new election is scheduled for 90 days after Trump arrested. If Dems are smart, they will go with Kamala. If not, I’ll sit the election out.

PS. Joe retains the presidency until he resigns and KAMALA BECOMES PRESIDENT.

Agree 100%. I will add my hope that those very wealthy few who argue against pardons, because they would refuse it for themselves, will be the most significant financial donors of a defense fund. It is easy to write lofty posts and articles when one can get on a private jet to Portugal.
