ATTN: Military Veterans Fired from the Federal Workforce
If you've been looking for a way to tell your story, I have just the thing.
Are you a veteran who's recently been laid off from a federal job? So Say We All and MSW Media are looking for YOUR stories.
In 2018, the amazing people at So Say We All - a literary and performing arts non-profit - put out a call for submissions to Veterans who wanted to share their stories about coping with life after service. My entry was selected, and I was invited to the Veteran Writers Workshop to develop my story, perform it with other Veterans at several venues and colleges, have it featured on a podcast with KPBS, and then published in a compilation book of essays. It truly changed my life
The experience left me with a sense of accomplishment, learning to become a better writer, and knowing that my story had helped others feel like they weren’t so alone.
Today, thousands of Veterans have been betrayed by the government that promised to protect them as we see mass-layoffs over dozens of federal agencies including the Department of Veterans Affairs. Meanwhile, the Trump regime has launched a smear campaign against federal workers and Veterans alike.
I’m proud to announce that my network MSW Media is partnering with So Say We All to help Veterans fired from federal service to tell their stories. Our goals are to:
Combat the lies being told by this administration that aim to undermine the hard work and dedication exemplified by our civil servants,
Amplify Veteran voices so that others feel less alone, because knowing you’re not alone robs them of their ability to gaslight us,
Provide a space for Veterans to heal through their storytelling,
Speak truth to power.
Submissions are now open! There is no wrong way to tell your story, we just want to hear it and will provide all the support you need to make it sing.
It all starts with you sending us a first draft of a true, non-fiction story you want to develop about your career with the Federal Government, what you did with what agency, what it meant to you, and where you are now after being laid off. A rough guideline is to shoot for under 1,000 words, but it's absolutely fine if your first draft goes long or short; we'll workshop it.
Deadline for submissions is currently open.
Participants will perform their stories, which will be aired over podcasts, streaming video, Youtube, and more.
This program is open to veterans regardless of where they are geographically located.
Participants will work together in cohort sessions over Zoom to give and receive feedback, receive 1-1 writing coaching, and be provided with performance coaches throughout the 6-8 week process.

You don’t have to be a Veteran to help support this project! MSW Media and So Say We All are covering all the costs, so we need your help. Please kick in what you can by donating directly to So Say We All here. Your donation is tax deductible!

Let’s get into some good trouble!
Hi, Allison -- what happens to the stories after they are polished? In other words, could we get some fed vets into our red states on, say Memorial Day, to perform their stories? Or could we get a workshop in a red state to help local former fed workers and vets prep and share their stories?
I think this is a wonderful idea. A great way to undo the misinformation and propaganda that has been spread.
I am a pro democracy American and although I am not a vet, or even currently in our armed services, I’ve always had the highest respect for our service members! I am so grateful for each and every one of you being courageous and caring enough to be willing to put your lives on the line to protect our rights and freedoms and our lives! With that said, and although I voted for the strong empathetic black woman, I can’t help but feel incredibly guilty for what is happening to our vets. The absolute last people to deserve such awful treatment! And I am so sorry that our country has let you down! 😔🇺🇸🌹🫡
